MIG 21
(Model No 14)

Sean with Mig 21 (a very long time ago!)

The Mig 21 was built by Sean and myself (it was Sean's plane really) - twice. We had great difficulty getting both attempts at this plane into the air, and when we did get it airborne it always crashed. In retrospect, despite having the balance-point exactly where it ought to be according to the plan, it was nevertheless most likely very nose heavy - but we didn't realise that at the time, did we? The last crash came after the engine died shortly after take-off. The model "nose-dived" from around 80 feet, and it just wouldn't answer the elevator's command to "flare" - yep, it was definitely nose-heavy!
