FLAIR CUB
(Model No. 37)

The perfect model for sunny, calm, days - but it can also handle a bit of a blow too! Built from the Flair kit I installed separate aileron servos and built-in a "plug and socket" so that as the wing is fitted the aileron servos engage automatically. I also enlarged all control surfaces by 1/4" in order to make the model more responsive - and it worked great too!

The engine was mounted "sidewinder" togive an improved profile

Having gradually moved the balance point to the rear and increased the control-surface throws to the maximum (on high rates), this plane was as aerobatic as many sports models. But by switching in the flaperons (linked to the elevator), and reducing the engine to tick-over, it could be floated-along at walking pace too

This was my favourite plane for "knife-edge" (look at all that fuselage side-area) as it would fly on its side all day without any complaints

During 2003 I decided I needed to learn how to fly knife-edge loops, and this model was the only one I had at that time which would come close to doing one. On a good day it would just manage to K-E-L on its OS .52 Surpass, but it was very marginal. Christmas 2003 brought the solution - an ASP .61 4-stroke engine! Much better!

Record flight duration: 45 minutes, and it still didn't run out of fuel. No crash damage whatsoever - pity it was lost in my workshop fire!
