AeroSport Extra 300S
(Model No 61)
I bought this ARTF model at the Harrogate Show in November 2007 (for £67):
It needed much more engine side-thrust than the instructions called-for - but perhaps this was because I used the ex-Funtana's Saito 100 (which is quite a lot of power for a .40-size model)
Flight 12: I was flying from one end of the strip to the other, doing an aerobatic turn-around at each end of the strip. I'd done this around 4 or 5 times when I noticed that the u/c had gone AWOL! I assume that the aerobatic "turn-arounds" must have flung the u/c from the model, and examining the way it had been glued in-place afterwards I could easily see how this had happened (do they use water instead of glue these days?):
The "belly-landing" was approached with some trepidation as the Saito 100 is mounted inverted and the valve rods were directly in the line of fire for this kind of landing. I needn't have worried though as the landing was fine and did no further damage to the model nor its engine
Back at home I fitted the ex-Funtana's u/c. Then a couple of weeks later a motorcyclist rode over to me and asked if I know who might be the owner of the u/c he had in his hand. He'd found it in an adjoining field where he was running an off-road bike-riding course
